About
Welcome to Body: An Anthology! This project has come together with the effort of 31 artists and their original short stories centered around the diversity of the human experience. Get your own copy!
In 2023 Normandie Luscher had the idea to create a comic about size inclusive characters, however, as she developed the idea, she realized that collaborating with other artists would increase representation of all kinds of human experiences. Normandie decided to coordinate a call for entries to invite as many artists as possible to share their stories. These stories portray the range of what it means to be human, from the complicated to the embarrassing to joyful and celebratory!
In late 2024 artists were invited to submit original ideas around the theme of the body. In early 2025, the artists further developed their initial ideas into storyboards and then into the final artwork. Each story was carefully crafted and shares the voice and experiences of each artist. The project was coordinated by Normandie and aided by peer artist jurors who helped to select and curate the initial story proposals.
The jury consisted of Jordan Sondler, Yifan Luo, Robert Young and myself. We used a rubric, which helped us to make as unbiased decisions as possible. And we tried to accept as many proposals as possible that we felt confident could be executed by the artist. You can read more about the jurors here.

As a note, this book was not written specifically for a child focused audience and does contain mature content.
This project is funded through the Visual and Performing Arts College and School of Arts at Syracuse University.
Following the robust contributions to the project, we instigated a Kickstarter campaign, which you can see here.
